Biofeedback

Biofeedback refers to a tool allowing the measurement of a physical characteristic that may be used for teaching and training purposes.

There are many different types of biofeedback; 3 of which have relevance to the pelvic floor:

  • pressure biofeedback – using pressure to indicate the amount of squeeze
  • electromyography (EMG) – showing electrical activity in the pelvic floor
  • weighted vaginal cones – using sensation to encourage muscle contraction

The method selected depends on resources, presentation or problem and personal preference.
